Bio

Dr. Nagle is a member of the Global Endomechanical Platform Leadership Team, as well as the medical lead for the Colorectal Specialty.

Prior to joining Johnson & Johnson, Dr. Nagle was Chief of the Division of Colon and Rectal Surgery at Beth Israel Medical Center, Harvard Medical School. She is the founding chief of the first dedicated division of colon and rectal surgery in the Harvard hospital system. She has over two decades of clinical experience in colon and rectal surgery, is a well-known teacher of surgical residents and peers, and has been closely involved in medical device development.

Deborah’s practice focused on minimally invasive surgical approaches in colon and rectal surgery, particularly robotics and reduced-port laparoscopic surgery. She is an expert in surgical robotics and is an innovator of operative techniques and training methods in this arena. Deborah has been a leader in surgical education having created and led training courses for practicing surgeons in minimally invasive techniques at the national level. She is extensively published in the fields of minimally invasive surgery and optimizing perioperative management. Her particular area of expertise revolves around enhanced recovery innovations in perioperative management that have been shown to reduce hospital complications and readmission rates. She has been an investigator in multiple clinical trials, both investigator-initiated and industry-sponsored. Dr. Nagle has served as a consultant and medical advisor to several medical device companies across a spectrum of products.

After obtaining an undergraduate degree at Barnard College, Columbia University, Deborah received her Doctor of Medicine from the University of Pennsylvania. She completed her general surgical training at the Graduate Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and received her colon and rectal surgery training at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital.
