“It was challenging to appeal to the wide audiences we serve and intuitively organize the many topics we offer in a quick and efficient manner. But I think we’ve established a sound foundation to build upon, and we look forward to enhancing this useful tool as our Center evolves,” said Susan Skemp, executive director of FAU’s SNMREC. “We encourage visitors to provide feedback so that we can continuously improve the offerings our new web site provides.”
The new SNMREC web site offers information about ocean energy, Center news and upcoming events, access to data that is being collected or generated by the Center, results of the Center’s funded research and details about its focus areas. Future enhancements will include tools and features to help engage users with interactive education applications, analytical services for interpreting the center’s diverse data sets, industry partnership tools and engaging media such as real-time video of projects both on and offshore. The SNMREC was established in 2010 when the U.S. Department of Energy designated the Center for Ocean Energy Technology (COET), FAU’s state of Florida Center of Excellence, as a national center for ocean energy research and development. The SNMREC joined national centers in the Pacific Northwest and Hawaii that also work to advance the operational readiness of ocean energy technologies. The SNMREC boasts internationally unique expertise and tools for ocean current and ocean thermal energy conversion research and development.
