FAU, civil, environmental and geomatics engineering undergraduate student Natan De Leon won first place in the 2013 Concrete Education Essay Contest sponsored by the Florida Concrete and Products Association Education Committee (FC&PA).
De Leon’s essay titled “The future of concrete for sustainable development at Florida Atlantic University” focused on the need to develop and incorporate sustainable pervious concrete materials in roadways and parking lots and was sponsored by Panagiotis "Pete" D. Scarlatos, Ph.D., chair and professor of the Department of Civil, Environmental and Geomatics Engineering at FAU.
The first place award was $2,500 and the top three finalists were invited to the FC&PA annual convention in Palm Coast on June 21 to be recognized. De Leon and Yan Yong, Ph.D., professor and associate chair of the Department of Civil, Environmental and Geomatics Engineering attended the event .
